RE: Towing ability

my Pontiac Montana tows my Jayco 1701 Ex-Port so far (2 small trips) without any real issues. I have an weight distribution hitch, tranny cooler and will probably add an anti-sway this weekend. my trips are short (less than 240 miles) across mostly flat land.

RE: Holding Tank Primer for Dummies

this was one of my biggest worries when we moved from a popup to a htt. and after 2 weekends, no issues at all. we are 2 adults, 1 child using it and I was planning on putting restrictions. this past weekend we did 4 days where we had a 4 adult visitors and they all used it and by the end of day 4 i was 3/4 full. i was so happy that no restrictions are required. so far i'm using the the free chemical samples that came with the htt, but I'll have to purchase something soon.

Jayco 17c - can't LIGHT HOT WATER TANK

Hey fellow Jayco 17c owners, I need help. I've tried 3 times now to light my hot water tank. I've ran the propane on the stove for 2-3 minutes and I've made sure there's water in the tank (opened pressure valve and water comes out). I've held the pilot switch to the right, hold a flame to the termocoupler for 30 seconds then let the switch spring back to "Pilot", but I hear or see nothing. I try again and again and the give up. I tried the next day and nothing again. And I tried again last night and nothing.
Hints? Tips?

RE: On the Way to Alaska

If you want to go north from North Dakota, cross at the Pembina/Emerson border on I75 and then come visit Winnipeg (1.5 hr drive north of border). It's beautiful in August. You can then take the Trans-Canada all the way to Calgary crossing throught the Canadian praries. Some find it boring, but the rolling fields of canola and alfafa can be quiet scenic.

Storage Compartment Latches on Jayco (or lack there of)?

Picked up my Jayco 17c Export and was giving it the "one over". I've realized that the 2 storage compatment doors do not have latches to keep them open. They are not that big or heavy so not to big of a deal if I use my elbow to keep them open while loading it up, but I'm thinking about adding something. What do you guys have?
I was thinking about adding a nylon "T-shape" type latch similar to what my door has or perhaps one of the below. What do you have or recommend?
white bullet style
another kind

RE: "Green" camping ideas..............

If you really want to camp "Green" I suggest you look into leaving the camper at home sometime and giving the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness a shot. It takes some planning, and if you have never done it, I would recommend getting some direction from a local guide service. But I guarantee you, if you have any "Green" blood at all, you will wish you had done it years ago, and want to return as soon as you get home.
POTC
About 10 years ago I did 3 canoe trips through the Canadian side with some college buddies. They were only 4-6 days and all were amazing. Planning on taking the kiddies there when they get to be about 7.

RE: Towing Jayco 17 Ex-Port with minivan

^ i think your response should put the "urinary olympics" to rest. everyone has an opinion and your experiences like others that use minivans to tow SMALL hybrids have proven that it can be done.

RE: Towing Jayco 17 Ex-Port with minivan

Hey fellow canuck, you will lots and lots of conflicting advice on this topic. some say you do not need to subtract passenger weight from tow vehicle, some like the above post says you do. many people on this forum are die hard HEMI driving truck lovers and scoff at a minivan towing anything. do a search and you'll see what I mean. I've decided to go for it. Most of my towing is 2-4 hours from home and we are fairly flat on here on the prairies. If you are dong 10 hour drive through the Rockies then I'm not sure I would recommend it. For us, a minivan i'm sure will work fine. I've had a tranny cooler installed and will be using a equalizer hitch to distribute the weight. I'm picking mine up this weekend. JAYCO 17c rocks!!!!

RE: HTT Parking Spot

great timing for this thread, i'm doing mine this weekend, myself. mine was excavated 3 yrs ago 8 inches and i filled it with pea gravel for my kids playground. it's very hard base as it's red river gumbo (clay). i've now hauled all the pea gravel out (only 65 wheelbarrows of it) and moved that area to another part of the yard. i'm getting 6 yards of 1/4 down crushed limestone hauled in which will give it about 5 inch depth. i'm then rent a packer and packing it down. i'm hoping it'll last 2-3 years with minimal sinking after which I can top it up if required.

RE: highlander hybrid towing jayco 17c

I pull a 17C with a Montana. Use a equalizer hitch, tranny cooler and take it easy. My trips are 2-4 hrs in length and mostly flat.

RE: Looking for input

CSA certification (Canadian Standards Association) are higher than US standards, so no issues with that. When a RV is destined for Canada, they get additional features.

RE: No tv when camping was I wrong.

a few years ago i was against tv in MY bedroom and the RV. Now i just recently purchased a 19" tv/dvd combo for our bedroom 8 months and rv the other 4 months. oh how times change!
we have a no tv rule in rv unless it's raining or i'm trying to prep supper. also this summer our 1 yr old will be napping so maybe it'll keep the 3 yr old busy.
it's not the end of the world. i never thought i would have a micro and a a/c in my rv, but i do now.
guy at works hates camping and his famous quote is " why would i work 50 weeks a year to live like a homeless for 2 weeks". by rv'ing is far from being homeless.
